    The MegaSquirt-II

This is a plug-in module which upgrades the MegaSquirt EFI system (which was based on the MC68HC908GP32), a direct processor replacement. This is an open-source project - all schematics, software, etc. are available. This is a complete, finished project which is running engines all over the world, and has logged literally thousands of miles. The key features are listed on the web site, but here is a brief listing of features pertaining to the HCS12:
  • Code uses most of the peripherals of the C64, including timers, SCI, and CAN.
  • Code is developed in "C" and will compile under Metrowerks Codewarrior or Gnu GCC, and serves as an example of what is required to allow compilation under either tool.
  • Controller-Area Network (CAN) code is complete and is a good example of a simple CAN protocol implementation.
  • Significant mathematics are implemented in the code and shows how well the HCS12 handles a real application. Main loop execution time is 0.6 milliseconds for a 24 MHz bus clock and heavily-loaded interrupts (SCI, CAN, Capture).
  • Code uses the Freescale Serial Monitor to allow firmware updates in the field.
  • A stand-alone download application (PC Windows) was developed to communicate with the Serial Monitor in order to download new S19 firmware files (either from Codewarrior or GCC), and can be used directly for other applications which use the Serial Monitor.
A support list for this project located at www.msefi.com. Located here is a list of success stories of vehicles running this system, along with tuning parameters, etc.
